ProPharm offer a unique national platform for the collaborative development of innovative products, processes and technical services along the entire value chain of pharmaceutical production. In 2020, the Center for Pharmaceutical Process Engineering (PVZ) of the TU Braunschweig founded the ZIM Network Pharmaceutical Production Technology (ProPharm) on the initiative of six small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). ProPharm consists of SMEs as well as the research institutions of TU Braunschweig and Leibniz Universität Hannover. By being locating at the PVZ, the ProPharm network offers its industrial partners in particular a highly innovative environment with an excellent research infrastructure. In the start-up phase, ProPharm is being funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM). The ZIM is intended to sustainably support the innovative strength and competitiveness of medium-sized companies. The focus is on the development of new and optimization of existing production processes and products. The aim of ProPharm is to create an intensified exchange and support in the transfer of research results in the field of pharmaceutical active ingredient and product research. The network is open to new partners, especially SMEs, in order to work together on issues of pharmaceutical production technology.
The vision of the network is to close knowledge gaps and to identify unused potentials through new products, processes and technologies from cultivation to processing and refinement of hemp – from the field to the shelf. Thanks to the attractive market potential in numerous applications, the multi-talent hemp can once again take on a central role as an economic factor in Germany, and the network partners can help shape the newly emerging market through early market entry and cooperation.
The network pursues the approach of driving innovations in all stages of the hemp value chain from cultivation to processing to new end products, recognizing potentials and developing them through suitable framework conditions and activities. The target group of the network are therefore primarily companies that process hemp or manufacture products from hemp as well as companies that can push the cultivation of hemp with new technologies. The added value of intensifying the use of hemp starts with small agricultural businesses, which can build up a new, lucrative mainstay with hemp cultivation. Mechanical engineering companies benefit from the development and provision of technology for plant cultivation and the further processing of hemp, which is in demand worldwide. Last but not least, the manufacturing industry also benefits from the diversification of product ranges in the bio-based materials, cosmetics and food sectors.
